Singular and Plural Nouns

Singular and plural nouns : a noun names a person, place, idea or thing.


For the plural form of nouns, add s.

  • ruler - rulers
  • chair - chairs
  • computer - computers
  • pencil - pencils
For nouns that end in ch, c, s or s sounds, add es.

  • moss - mosses
  • bus - buses
  • bleach - bleaches
  • glass - glasses
For nouns ending in f or fe, change f to v and es.

  • leaf - leaves
  • knife - knives
  • wife - wives
  • wolf - wolves
Some nouns have different plural forms.

  • bag - beg
  • man - men
  • woman - women
Nouns ending in vowels like y or o do not have different rules.


  • potato - potatoes
  • canopy - canopies
  • butterfly - butterflies
